Lecarrow South

Lecarrow South in Irish “An Leath Cheathrú Theas” meaning half quarter south. A quarter was an ancient measurement of land found predominately in Connaught. In the Electoral division of Ballynagar the townland is 130.96 acres or 53 hectares in size.

Lecarrow South borders Ballycorban, Cappaghcon West, Commons East, Commons West, Gortnakilla, Lecarrow North and Tulla.

The 1840 map would indicate there were in excess of 12 houses or outbuildings in the townland. In the 1847-64 Griffith’s Valuation there were 3 households and 12 landholders plus commonage. In the 1901 census there were 3 residences and 12 inhabitants and in the 1911 census there were 4 residences and 27 inhabitants.
