Cappaghcon West in Irish “Ceapaigh an Chonnaidh Thiar” is in the Ballynagar electoral division and is 129.01 acres or 52.21 hectares in size. John O’Donovan recorded two interpretations of the Cappaghcon name: “Ceapach Con”, meaning “plot of the hounds” (also given by P. W. Joyce), and “Ceapachán”, meaning “a small plot”.

Cappaghcon West borders Ballydaly, Commons East, Gortnakilla, Lecarrow South and Silverstream.

In the 1841 census it had 59 people, 12 inhabited and 1 uninhabited house and in the 1851 census there were 39 people and 7 inhabited houses. The 1840 map indicated in excess of 21 houses or outbuildings. In the 1847-64 Griffith’s Valuation there were 3 houses and 5 landholders. In the 1901 census there were 5 residences and 22 inhabitants and in the 1911 census there were 5 residences and 23 inhabitants.
